Haunted place!? Yes! In this article I'll share some information about the haunted places in West Bengal. I'll also share the stories behind it.

10 Most Haunted Places in West Bengal -



  • National Library, Alipore :  National library, Alipore has always been reputed to haunted. It is one of the best haunted places in Kolkata. The story is, in 2010, while the restoration work was going on, Ministry of Culture and Archeological Survey of India discovered a mysterious room on the ground floor. Night guards and students who are studying till late have heard the footsteps of a woman, perhaps the wife of Lord Metcalfe. People reading alone in the library have felt deep breathe down their neck. This happens more when they don not keep books in place from where they took it.



  • Writer's Building at BBD Bag :  Do you know, no one works here after sunset? There are many huge and vacant room in the building. It is said that, night guards and food vendors on the adjacent pavements have heard desperate cries from the building in evening. 




  • Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station :  Most of you must have heard about this haunted place. According to passengers, they often see shadows or hear weird noises. It is said that, all those who committed suicide at this station or jumped from moving metro, still haunts and show their presence.



  • Durgapur Women's College Road :  This road is known as haunted area by the local people. No one cross this road after 12 am. Here *I want to share my experience*. One night, me and my friends were coming home at around 3 am by car from Church after celebrating Christmas. As we knew about the place, we opened ohm in our screen so that we can have the courage. But suddenly our phone switched off automatically when we crossed that road. Nothing really happened but the experience was something that I can't express with word.



  • Under the Howrah Bridge :  There is a place right under the Howrah Bridge near the Mullick Ghat Flower Market, is believed to be a center of various paranormal activities. There have been numerous case of people committing suicide by jumping off the bridge. The wrestlers who practice in that area on a daily basis around 3 am, claimed to see hands asking for help, right above the water surface. Some also claimed to have witnessed a lady in white dress calling out their names in a weird tone.





  • Putulbari :  Putulbari is situated near Sovabazar jetty, near nimtala ghat. It is a century old house. Tattle talk about hue and cry in female voices is heard from local people. In the night, one may sense shrill laughter.




  • South Park Street Cemetery :  Located in Park Street area which is known for pubs and food joints but this cemetery is one of the largest non-church christian cemeteries outside Europe and America. Here most of the graves belongs to British soldiers. Many people fallen sick after coming here. People also have captured weird structures in their cameras of breathlessness even they don't have any breathing problem.




  • Wipro Office, Salt Lake :  Wipro office is situated in Salt Lake, Kolkata. It is also known as one of the haunted places in Kolkata. It is claimed to heard noise of things falling when someone uses the lift or staircase to the upper floors. The employees are warned to stay away from certain part of this office, specially the third floor of tower three.




  • Begunkodor Railway Station :  Begunkodor railway station is in Purulia district of West Bengal. It is known as haunted railway station. It is said since long that the station master reportedly died after seeing white sari woman walking along the railway tracks. This railway station remained shut for 42 years until 2009.




  • Kolkata Dockyard :  There are many scary stories about this place. It was constructed by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh. It is said that Nawab wanders around to take revenge from the British for setting up a home in his much-loved property.
